| ![]() | Customer Reviews:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() AVP - Keep this close for close encounters :) (20 June 2010)I had both the original PC games from this series and again I found that although the game is more (storey wise) engaging playing as the Marine the fun really begins when you play as the nearly unstoppable Predator!!!!!! There are a few obvious problems with the game like being able to block an alien once its on top of you (not gonna happen) but then game play would be very short without it :) ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Warning (29 May 2010)DO NOT BUY THIS GAME AS USED. AS YOU CAN NOT DOWNLOAD ON TO YOUR COMPUTER AS THE ACTIVATION CODE HAS ALREADY BEEN REGISTERD. OK ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Could have been MUCH better (26 May 2010)I have been waiting for another Aliens vs Predator game for almost 10 years and I gotta say AvP 2010 was a huge disappointment for me. For a start the single player story had copied some elements from the dreadful AvP films, instead of carrying on from the previous AvP game. The Alien campaign was extremely short for my liking, the mechanics used for the Alien however were pretty good. I liked how the Alien could move about, and use focus attacks. But they also removed some elements such as the Aliens lifecycle from AvP2, and the ability to head bite victims whilst standing. The Marine campaign was ok and probably the longer of all three. But there are alot of weapons missing from the previous games, you only get a Pistol, Smartgun, Flamethrower, Shotgun and Pulse Rifle. There is no Rocket Launchers, Grenade Launchers or Minigun. Even though I wasn't really concerned about that, but the scare aspect of playing as the Marine didn't exist for me. Playing the previous two AvPs, the Marine levels filled you with tension and fear. Also I thought that it was too easy even on the Harder difficulties. Showing the player where to go in my opinion makes the game pointless to play. I like to find my way around levels instead of been shown where to go. Also there were many weapons missing from the Predators arsenal such as the EMP Pistol, Net gun and the Speargun. Predator had some decent mechanics such as the focus jump system which I did find quite pleasurable. Stalking prey from tree tops and waiting for the right moment to strike. However again the campaign was too short, and the levels were all the same. Each character would play the same levels but at different perspectives which I found EXTREMELY repetitive. The Trophy kills for the Predator were quite impressive and is enjoyable finishing your victims off. All in all though it is an AvP game to an extent and can be fun to play, however due to the fact that most AvP fans were waiting almost 10 years for this game, it is suffice to say that this game doesn't exceed its predecessors expectations and as a result is a sad disappointment. 6/10 ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() What is the point to the disk? (17 May 2010)Avoid this product if you dont want to install pointless software like steam. I was a massive fan of the last Alien VS Predator game and was really looking forward to playing this one. But when i tried to install it I was asked to install and create a steam account and then it proceeded to download the content from steam and not use the 2 DVDs in the box. Why supply 2 DVDs if you are not going to use them!?! I stopped the installation as I only use a pay as you go dongle for internet and this would cost me more than the game originally. I cant return the game as it was a present for my birthday but rest assured I will endevour not to buy any games with sercurom/DRM or steam/windows Live accounts as this is invassive and pointless. Good luck trying to play the game! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Very Disappointed and pretty fed up with Steam! (02 May 2010)This game was my 1st encounter with 'Steam' the on-line activation and game suppository site/company/whatever!- AWFUL! Steam activation is fundamental part of this game and any steam associated game because without activating it on the Steam site, YOU CANNOT PLAY IT. So, I am not going to abuse the game itself as I am effectively unable to play it. It get's 1 star from me as game you can't play is pretty pointless surely? It is not my computer which plays everything else such as COD2mw, COD4mw, Juarez:bound in blood etc etc etc With everything set as low as possible this game is in ultra slow motion. Basically it is so glitchy and molasses slow it is unplayable. If COD2mw with it's high speed moving maps and quite amazing graphics can play, why not this? Especially as from the graphics I have seen in A vs P it doesn't look that clever anyway. It was a complete fuff about trying to get the thing loaded and activated - you have to sign up for your free account, do this, do that - all I want to do here is play a game I own!!!! Plus as someone else has said 'Steam' support is apparently non-existent (you have to set up a seperate account btw to contact support!); sent them a 'can you help me with this please?' message off of their support site 4 days ago - nothing back, nada. I'll freely admit as mentioned I play COD2mw, which is also a 'steam' game and I bought it after A vs P. COD2mw does play but it took me HOURS to get it to work, 2 reinstalls etc and I blame steam. I really wanted COD2mw, so much I was prepared to go through the steam palaver. Having only bought Aliens vs Predator as a stop gap game if I had bought COD2mw first, I would not have bought A vs P because of Steam and in future will advoid any game that is accessed via Steam - it is utter rubbish. It does tell you on the back of any game if it requires steam activation. If you see a game requiring steam activation, think twice and buyer beware imo. |
