| ![]() | Customer Reviews:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Still Learning! (03 August 2010)I love this game - it's educational and fun! I don't understand the people who say it's not for adults, as your vocabulary is assessed at the start, so the exercises are then aimed at your level of vocabulary. The only adults who could possibly find this game a bit childish and boring, are the ones with an excellent vocabulary to begin with. The games are fun and challenging. I have my favourites like Split Decision and one's I'm not so keen on - for example Safe Cracker. But you can get enjoyment out of all the games, and you build up your vocabulary as you go along; so as you go over the same words again and again they are drilled into you. I'm a young adult and I can honestly say I'm still learning new words! In this game you have a choice of four coaches who say things to you occasionally - mainly about how well you're doing. When you have made enough progress, you go up to the next level - so you are really motivated to do well! Also as you progress on the different games, you unlock a new level for that game, which makes this game as a whole even more challenging! My thoughts - this is a game for people of all ages! I don't recommend it to those who already have an excellent vocabulary, but for people who want to learn more complicated words you don't hear in everyday conversation - buy it! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() some good elements, but generally a miss (31 July 2010)Firstly, this is completely unsuitable for kids. Mine like the Wii, but have shown no interest at all in this. Second, it is severely hampered by difficulty entering the answer, even if you know it. This is a problem since so many games are against the clock. Trying to draw a letter symbol on screen and have it recognised by the game is not easy. This just irritates. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Improve your Canadian English (14 April 2010)Unless I've managed to get a different version somehow, I'm surprised that other reviewers haven't commented on the fact that this game isn't in UK English but Canadian English.. and yes, it does make a difference! Many plants have different names (and spellings) and clay pigeon shooting is certainly different in Canada! How many English folk do you know that count using the term scroce? Beyond this, the game is quite fun. I was worried that as an adult it would be far too easy but as soon as "Schadenfreude" came up on the first day, I suspected that I may have underestimated it (and probably the other reviewer who says its "OK for kids!"). I have to admit (as an adult) that I can't see us playing on this for long as the games are a bit repetitive and almost impossible on the higher levels (collecting letters from the soup AND working out what the mixed up letters might spell in the time given!). Use of the Wii remote for writing on screen becomes easier when you adopt the careless abandon of a graffiti artist, but again, you have to be quick (on the quick setting). My experience is that the game has very quickly zoned in on an appropriate level... if it hasn't then I suspect that children would not find it much fun at all. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Not for under 10s (23 February 2010)The games were good for word practice, however i brought it with my 6 year old in mind, and really unless you have a very clever 6 year old then this is for older kids and adults. Its very difficult to find a learning to read and spell game for beginners. And with the 3+ rating on the box it really was not. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Great Vocab Booster! (19 February 2010)If you don't like the title of this game, then you're going to hate it! However it really does what it says on the tin and I know I've learnt some new words because of it. It has an excellent dictionary, clear definitions and a nice set of games. My only complaint is that it's not that easy to have a five minute go at it, it would have been nice to have a baby version on the Wii menu or quick games that you can play for a few minutes. If you've got thirty minutes then its great, but for any less than that you have to wade through cumbersome menus and if you haven't gone through the initial tutorial and saved it then it can take an age to get to the vocabulary building part. Overall it seems like the only choice for the Wii and on that basis I recommend it for those who wish to enhance their lexical ability! (See, I did learn the odd word.) |
