It's must have for browsing music and photos. Goes without saying it's so much better than using a gamepad! good build quality (12 June 2010)as good a remote as my Samsung tv remote in terms of solid, quality materials. there is a bit of spare space on the device face which would have been great filled with some tv controls too (such as volume, mute ), but i guess that would have required IR support as well, so would have made the device more costly and heavier. i would have paid for that though - as it is i still need my tv remote nearby. Are you sure you need it...? (07 June 2010)As has been said, this remote for the PS3 certainly makes it easier to navigate when playing bluray discs etc, but be aware that a lot of the Sony TV's now come with BRAVIA sync on their remote controls. Basically, if you have a PS3 connected to the TV, you can sync the TV remote so that it recognises the PS3 and will send basic functions to it (which are really useful for bluray discs). So - good item, but if you have a Sony TV, try syncing the remote first - it might save you some money and cluttering up the place with remotes you don't need... PS3 Remote (04 June 2010)For watching films on PS3, the SIXAXIS is not an ideal controller to use. This is where this product comes in. The glossy finish is pleasing to the eye but still feels durable. It is the same length as my TV remote, so to me it seems like a good size. Comes packaged with two Sony AA batteries, so you can get started straight away. Pairing with the PS3 is easy, took me 20 seconds from my PS3 being off to the remote being paired. Many people have mentioned the fact any button turns the console on, and depending on your circumstances this can be problematic. But they have failed to mention the positive side to this. Anyone using the SIXAXIS will probably, like me, turn it off during the course of watching a film. And on trying to pause the film, finding I need to turn the controller on again. Not a massive inconvenience, I know. But with this remote, if you press, for example, the pause button with the remote switched off, the remote switches on and pauses the film without requiring you to press the PS button or press the button again. Navigating the XMB is so easy using the D-Pad, and the buttons all feel tactile and well made. There are buttons for a variety of features that most people won't use, but its nice to have them there anyway. You can use the remote for anything on the XMB, even games if you re-number the controller to 1 and the game goesn't require analogue sticks.(Not sure why you would want to do that though!?) And because of the bluetooth connection, there is no trying to aim the remote at the TV while watching a movie in the dark. Some people say they have trouble seeing the buttons in the dark. I haven't had this issue. The remote is nicely curved at the ends, which wouldn't have been possible with an IR reciever in the end. The curved shape fits the hand well and is comfortable to use. Overall, a fantastic remote. Packed full of features and has many positive points. A great product. THE REALISTIC FEEL WHEN WATCHING MOVIES (28 May 2010)I bought my PS3 as a media centre rather than just for games. Being from a previous generation the control pad is not my best controlling device so I bumped into this RC and it made a big difference. Now I keep it away from the children and they keep their pad away from me. "Fair enough" ; my 4 year old daughter said. |
