the ultimate starwars game ever (04 May 2009)
This game truly deserves its platinum award.

I purchased this game in 2003 and i still play it 6 years later. its graphics are bad compared to current xbox games like call of duty 4 but they were good in its day.

Regrettably it is better with cheats as its to realistic and amo depletes way to easily.

Once you've completed it you can still play to get awards.

over all it is a must have for star wars enthusiast.

  Simply Fun (01 February 2009)
Despite its age, this really is still an enjoyable game. I got the old PS2 out a few days ago when some friends came over and Battlefront II was the first game I thought of playing.

While some people may be put off by thinking this is a 'Star Wars Nerd' game, it really isn't. It's basically a team-based Third Person Shooter, with a few Star Wars elements. The game's campaign mode is pretty good and takes a while to complete, but where this game really shines is multiplayer with friends offline or online.

Battlefront II boasts a variety of different maps, from the Ice World of Hoth (creating an experience to drive the huge AT ATs!) to the forest planet of Endor. You can pick from 6 types of soldier in each faction: Rifle, Rocket, Sniper, Commander (Machine Gunner), Engineer, or Jet Trooper/Wookie/Dark Trooper/Droideka. This creates a wide variety of options for play styles as not only do the units have different weapons but also different Secondary weapons, Grenades and additional weapons. In normal matches each team starts with a certain number of 'reinforcements' and 16 soldiers on the map. Whenever one of these dies he is replaced by a reinforcement. However, the amount of enemy reinforcements can be reduced by capturing and holding specific command points, with the more you hold the faster the enemies reinforcements go down. This makes for a large varied environment with battles raging throughout the map all the time.

The inclusion of vehicles and Space battles also add to the game's unique feel, with each faction starting with different vehicles, with albeit similar attributes. Space Battles also add a huge amount to the game, from dogfights round a huge enemy space ship to boarding and taking out their engines under enemy fire.

To conclude, I really would name this as one of the most fun to play shooters on the PS2. Highly recommended.

  Best Game! (30 January 2009)
This game is by far the most fun I've had from a game. It offers a range of characters, plots and can be played with two players.
Definately better than the 1st game and will be hard to get it out of the number one spot.
If you like shooting games, this is certainly for you. Even the girls :)

good but cant touch the first! (12 August 2008)
to be honest i cant say much because when i feel like playing a spacey shooter i always turn to star wars battle front 1 as i think this second in the franchise cant even touch the first.. Tom

I waited with anticipation and was disappointed (13 February 2008)
I had read so many reviews on this game, and the previous version. So may raved about it, and being the original was the best selling star wars game of all time, so I thought it has got to be worth a crack, as I love the films.

I got a copy recently, and I was under whelmed. OK positives are the star wars elements, the music, the film clips, and playing as stormtroopers, jedi's etc.

Maybe I haven't got into it yet, but the whole think feels to samey. The shooting games are just run around a fire randomly, there seems little skill or cannyness involved, unlike other games such as Medal of Honor, Battlefront, Call of Duty.

The missions all seem the same too, no variety.

The space ships ones are the same. It seems too fast to really involve skill, just frantically tracking and firing, then getting shot from behind.

I tried really hard to like this, but I think I will resell it again after 2 weeks of owning.

Genuinely gutted as I had waited 2 years to buy it.
