You play as a pilot of a starfighter tasked with...shooting things, bombing things and shooting and bombing things and so on. The game is based on an aspect of the Star Wars story. Flight wise the game is really good fun. However, sometimes I felt I was a gunner in a turret strapped to a spaceship rather than a fighter pilot. The controls are simple enough but the HUD is overly complicated. Force powers can be used as weapons as well. These can be effective if used correctly. The problem with the game is that it gets frantic or time critical on some levels. Itself not an issue, but some objectives are not clear or you have difficulty working out friend from foe. Otherwise it is an enjoyable shooter with a space theme. Some of the levels are planet based. Try the tutorial as it is useful. I did think that this was more of a shooter than a space flight sim but if you are a fan of Star Wars it is worth trying out. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() rubbish (13 April 2008)i bought this game from HMV, so i probably paid top dollar for it. anyway, got home stuck it in, and finished it. i hadn't even taken my coat off! it looks good and the music and all that. but it wont last long! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() a great star wars game! (17 September 2004)i got this game a while ago, and as soon as i turned on the playstation i was amazed, not only by the brilliant graphics but the smooth, simple control system and the fun to be had flying around shooting down anything in sight! There are loads of things to unlock: new missions (1 and 2 player), loads of new ships and bonus items such as trailers and comic books. Once you finish the game the first time round, you'll want to go back and play it again, not just to unlock everything, but because the missions are so well designed and fun to play! The only complaints i have are that the game is a bit short and not too challenging most of the way through. Also i do not like the main character you play. But these are minor complaints really: nothing to stop you buying this great game! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ONE OF THE BEST GAMES MADE! (22 February 2004)Great Story! Great Scenery! Great Gameplay! Great Controls! Great Unlockables! Completable! Need I say more......... The game takes place during the time of Episode II: Attack of the Clones, but has very little reference to it, in fact it is an almost brand new plot. You are Jedi Master Adi Gallia who has been given charge of a prototype of the Jedi Starfighter, the ship Obi-Wan Kenobi flew in the film. As a means of testing this new fighter, Adi has been sent to the Karthaak system to investigate disturbances there. Almost immediately you are catapulted into a deadly scheme coordinated by the Trade Federation and Cavik Toth's mercenary army, in which they are planning to use devestating 'Hex' weapons to win the war against the Republic. Only a small Revenent force led by Nym opposes them. As far as gameplay is concerned it is very similar to Starfighter, but for those who are new to the series it can seem very confusing, especially on some of the later levels where the area is literally crammed with starfighters and starships. But the game provides 5 training missions seperate to the story at the beginning which can help you familiarise yourself with the controls and how the game works. You can play as Adi or Nym, depending on which mission you're on, and thanks to the new 2 player co-operative system, Player 2 can control 2 otherwise unplayable characters. In addition to your regular lasers, whilst controlling the Jedi Starfighter you have the option of 4 different 'Force' Powers which become available during the game, such as Force Lightning and Force Shield. Nym has a devestating host of secondary weapons such as cruise missiles and proximity bombs. The other two characters also have their own unique secondary weapons. The main downside to the game is that it is rather short, yet a wide variety of bonus features, such as 5 unique player 1 secret missions including one involving Jango Fett and Slave 1, 5 secret player 2 missions including a classic dogfight between X-wings and Tie Fighters, and a whole host of unlockable craft, such as the X-Wing, Tie Fighter, the Republic Gunship and Slave 1 which you can all select to play as in any mission. You can also unlock some humourous and often quite bizarre bonus footage. No doubt that Jedi Starfighter is a fantastic game, and with it now being so cheap it is a must for any Star Wars fan, and may even convert those with whom the force is weakest. |
