| ![]() | Customer Reviews:![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Excellent RTS. (29 July 2010)Essentially, this is the biggest PC release so far this year - the reason is simple: its one of best RTS's around, and probably one of the best ever made. The reasons for this are simple: -Fun, intuitive gameplay -balanced and very polished multiplayer -Great single player campaign -comes with a map editor: you'll never see an end to usermade content and mods as long as the fanbase remains strong, which it has had ever since the original came out. To clear some things up, this is the FULL game with all races playable in multi and a full length single player campaign: the two expansions to come after this add a Zerg and protoss campaign, whilst this release has the Terran campaign - the other campaigns will be released in time. The graphics are good, but some people say they have issues with slowdowns on some older systems when it comes to large battles, but as long as your PC is reasonably up to date, it should run fine. For the record, i havent had any problems with battlenet so far, and its pointless to rubbish a game due to issues with the online client, rather than the actual game... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Stunning & Polished (29 July 2010)Had this 2 days now, looks awesome, everything set to ultra, the attention to detail is breath-taking, the only qualm I have is... there isn't enough time available for me to play it! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() What C&C wishes it could be (28 July 2010)Some back ground from myself, i was a big fan of the red alert and C&C RTS games from EA (apart from the last one) as well as the warcraft line (no. not world of warcraft), the RTS series. Now with that in hand i am also a novice when it comes to starcraft, its the only RTS ive never played, thus i had no expectations of how good/bad this game would be or its mechanics and gameplay. This game is pure gold, and i almost missed out after reading some less then happy reviews on here, the gameplay is classic RTS with resource gathering/movement being the key to success in almost every mission. The combat is your standard grab lots of units and send them in, or carefully position them to make ambushes and attacks effective, you can have as much or as little micro management as you want, obviously to get alot of the hard achievements in this game you need to manage your troops and resources very carefully. The cinematics are georgeous, but the thing ive enjoyed the most is the campaign upgrade system, this is completely new and ive never seen this done in other RTSs (that ive played), you get to pick upgrades that you carry over into every following mission, brought by the use of credits you earn from prior missions, or from research points, usually aquired from bonus objectives. There is also an element of choice when it comes to missions, after the first 4 or so missions, your training wheels are removed and you get to pick and choose your missions, I am about 10 or 11 missions in and the freedom of choice is quite nice. The interaction between other characters on your ship almost adds an element of RPG to this game, which is nice, but mostly for show, although ive not yet been able to resist clicking on something marked as unread on the screen. I have yet to try the online play on this game, but so far on Normal difficulty its kept me busy for about 4 hours, hopefully many more to follow. One other thing to mention, as this is tied into battle net, you can chat via real ID to all your friends in other bliz games, even during missions, its been done very well and is quite unobtrusive during gameplay. Just press return to bring up your text box and tab to rotate through your frinds currently online. If you have similar tastes to me then id suggest getting this game, its quite fun even without knowing all of the background from the original game. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Starcraft 2 (28 July 2010)Excellent game, you get hours of amazing gameplay and I have had no trouble with B.net ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Good game despite Battle Net (28 July 2010)After reading a lot of conflicting information regarding this game before it's release and witnessing Activision-Blizzards destruction of the Call of Duty series on the PC with Modern Warfare 2 I was a little worried to say the least. The new Battlenet is as completely unnecessary as IWNET was and seems to serve only as a potential money making delivery system in future when they roll such content out. It also forces you to be online at all times and removes classic features such as game lobbies. It only detracts from the experience of the game. Typical of Activision's growing, greed fueled, poison touch (that increasingly makes EA seem ethical) the game obviously costs more than it should and does not include the campaigns for Zerg or Protoss, these will be released at extra cost down the line as "expansions". These issues aside the actual game when you get to play it is great. The game play is classic RTS resource gathering and base building, none of the "streamlined" (dumbed down) game play of recent RTS titles such as Dawn of War 2. The single player campaign seems good fun from what I have seen so far and adds depth in the form of a good story and character and environment interactions between missions that is missing from most RTS games. Being a competitive type of gamer, the real reason I bought the game was for the multiplayer. There's none of the differences that may as well have been in colour and name only for most units/buildings found in recent C&C games. The races are distinct and offer different stlyes of play and depth to the game play. |
